About Lone Soldiers
The Lone Soldier

(a young person who makes aliyah and is serving in the IDF while having no immediate family in Israel)

The Lone Soldier. He is there for you. Won't you be there for him?

Lone Soldiers come from all over the world to defend Israel: Russia, Australia, France, Canada, the United States and Argentina. Wherever Jews live, there also lives a consciousness of Jewish values. These brave young men and women could have gone on to college or a career. They could have. But, they didn't. Instead these young Zionists came to Israel in order to serve their homeland. They volunteered for service in the Israel Defense Forces.

In the IDF they quickly became a part of a team. And when on the line they have brothers. When their units are pulled off the line and allowed some vacation time, however, their brothers all go to their parents’ homes. These young men and women, however, can not go home for a Shabbat or holiday. Shabbat weekend breaks can be a lonely and difficult time. It is up to us to set them up with host Israeli families to support them throughout their service and as they work to integrate into Israeli society after they finish their service. Their host family provides them with the home away from home, which they so desperately need.

Some lone soldiers prefer to have apartments together. The IDF provides some apartments for these young men and women, but these apartments hardly have the comforts of home. It is up to us to add furniture, appliances, warmth and even meals so these youngsters can enjoy their time off. Our organization is dedicated to helping lone soldiers make their two to three year commitment to the IDF as easy as possible.

Your contribution can help. Your letters can help. We are the family of Israel. And the best of our sons are a long way off. We all pray that there will be peace. But what if?
